Meet Scott - From graduating from the Royal Veterinary College in 2010, and since working in London and Dubai, before acquiring Riverside’s Sleaford practice Scott’s journey has taken him a long way from where it all began.

Since 2016 when Scott took the leap into independent practice ownership, growing Sleaford Vets from a small four-person team into the team of 24 that we have today, he has ensured the passion for clinical standards, strong community relationships and keeping independent veterinary care at the heart of the practice remains unmatched.

Tell us a little about your career journey

I graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2010. After qualifying, I started my career in mixed practice before moving to London, and then Dubai, which gave me valuable experience of veterinary care and practice management in a very different environment.

In August 2016, I acquired Riverside’s Sleaford practice and relaunched it as Sleaford Vets. Two years later, we acquired Collingham Vets, bringing the two practices together as Sleaford Vet Group.

My role has gradually developed from primarily clinical work into practice ownership and leadership. Today, I remain closely involved in the group's direction and our future plans.

What made you want to own and run an independent veterinary practice?

I wanted the freedom to build the kind of veterinary practice friends and family would choose, cement myself in the local community and develop lasting relationships that are so important in veterinary care.

What areas of veterinary medicine are you particularly interested in?

My interests have always been surgery; however, increasingly they are now focused on clinical standards and ensuring that cases can be properly investigated and treated within our own practices whenever possible.

What are you most proud of achieving with the practice so far?

I am most proud that we have grown from one small practice with four staff in August 2016,  into a strong independent veterinary group of 24 staff without losing sight of the values on which it was built.

The real achievement is the team we have developed and the relationships they have built with our clients. 

I am also proud that we are continuing to invest in independent veterinary care for the area, including our exciting plans for 2027. 

What do you think makes an independent practice different or special?

Our decisions are made by people who understand the practice, know the team and care about its long-term reputation within the local community. That allows us to be more personal, responsive and flexible, while maintaining continuity of care and our own clinical identity.

One thing clients might be surprised to know about you

Clients may be surprised to know that I have spent a significant part of my career working in the Middle East. Working across both the UK and the UAE has allowed me to experience very different veterinary markets and bring some of the best ideas from each into the way we develop our practices.
